About

Entong is an experienced composer and performer. Entong plays the piano with high proficiency — he has played as a soloist twice with the Camerata Fiestravaganza Orchestra in Berlin, performing concertos by Rachmaninoff and Liszt. Entong has participated in numerous masterclasses led by renowned professors such as Björn Lehmann, Lucas Blondeel, Jacques Rouvier, and Christian A. Pohl.

He began composing independently as a hobby at age 12, but began formal study with David Loke at age 16. His passion for composition and arrangement led him to create transcriptions and improvisations for school events, often featuring strings and other instruments such as the guitar. He has experience with musical theater, having contributed to productions such as Shrek Jr., Once on This Island, and Newsies.

He has also worked collaboratively to create music for a circus show. Specifically, he coordinated with both the string quartet and the circus performers each step of the way. He aligned musical elements to physical/visual ones, and had extensive correspondence with musicians to ensure his composition was playable/idiomatic.

As a student at NYU, he is pursuing further studies through the Music Theory and Composition program, expanding his knowledge and skills in both analysis and creative composition. He is also in the Screen Music orchestra and the Sonic Collective orchestra for which he has helped create several original arrangements.

Program

Works

  1. Nocturne in F

    5'

    Solo piano · 2025

A slow and short piece in F major, written during my trip to Germany. The inspirations for this piece are more mixed, including Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro and Chopin’s Etude in E major (Op 10, No 3).

  2. Piano Concerto in E minor

    39'

    Piano and orchestra · 2025

A three-movement work written for piano solo and orchestral accompaniment, composed over the span of a year. It was initially inspired by his time studying Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos, but also draws on other sources, such as music from film & video game studios. In the second movement, the subjects are reversed in the recapitulation. The last movement employs a theme-and-variations form but incorporates the second theme from the first movement near the second half.

  3. Quintet in B minor

    9'

Piano and string quartet · 2025

My first chamber work, consisting of a single movement in Sonata form.

  4. Prelude sans tonalité

    3'

    Solo piano · 2026

A prelude without a tonal center, exploring atonal harmonies and textures.

  5. Sonata for Cello and Piano

    30'

    Cello and piano · 2026

A three-movement sonata written for cellist Nicholas Chao, premiering at the NYU Composer’s Collective concert.
